Your Presenter

Char Boshart photo Charlotte A. Boshart, M.A., is a therapist, seminar presenter, and founder and president of Speech Dynamics, Inc. She received her Masters Degree from Western Michigan University. Since that time, she has been an Assistant Professor and Department Chair of Loma Linda University, a therapist in the public schools, a private practitioner, seminar presenter, and published author.

Ms. Boshart has presented hundreds of well-received seminars nationally to many speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and dedicated parents. Ms. Boshart is a consummate speaker, and her presentation style is infectious as well as exhilarating. She offers unique, effective methods in a clear, organized, and enjoyable manner.

The Agenda

We'll begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Registration is from 7:15 to 8:00 and lunch is on your own from 11:15 to 12:15.

Day One: A Full Day of Information, Analysis & Therapy

The Characteristics and Capabilities of Oral-Facial:
Hard Tissue: Facial Index Analysis, dentition, hard palate; compensatory therapy
Respiration and Resting Postures: Desirable and undesirable oral positioning; negative influences
Soft Tissue: Lips and tongue musculature; strength, tone, endurance; stretching the restrictive lingual frenum
Sensation: The Sensory-Motor Loop; sensory differences influence on movement
Stabilization, differentiation and refinement of movement during speech; methods to generate
Thumb sucking, tongue-sucking & pacifiers; Functional analysis of chewing & swallowing

Day Two: A Complete Day of Therapy Techniques

Physiological Readiness Exercises (PRE Therapy), and Service Delivery Models
Three forms of sensory therapy and how to apply Sensory Assists
Generating oral movement via Cooperative Mouthing
Using sucking & blowing to facilitate oral movement and sustained airflow
Establishing oral resting postures; the "Speech Zone"
Generating oral muscle strength and endurance for speech
Using Stabilization Assists; oral differentiation and refinement tasks
The Back-Tongue Oral-Motor Matrix: Sequential tasks for /k/, /g/, /ng/, and r.
The Front-Tongue Oral-Motor Matrix: Sequential tasks for /t/, /d/, /n/, /l/, /s/, "sh," "ch" (frontals and laterals)
Sound-stim techniques, generalization and carryover

Once registered, you will receive a confirmation letter, receipt, and map. If you do not receive these items, please 1) check first with your administrator (if he/she actually sent in the registration info) to determine if he/she received the letter, etc., and, 2) call Speech Dynamics to insure that you are registered. You may want to establish where the letter was sent, e-mailed, etc. Confirm your addresses.

We advise you to arrive no later than 7:40 a.m. to check-in, get a good seat, gather your coffee and juice, and settle in. The seminar begins promptly at 8:00 a.m.

ASHA CEUs

If you are a Speech-Language Pathologist and want continuing education credit, you will be given an ASHA Participant Form after lunch on the final day. Please use either pen or pencil and be sure to leave the Participant Form with us. ASHA is not fond of accepting late CEU forms.

Our presentations are copyrighted and we ask that you honor this. Audio- or video-taping the seminar presentation is prohibited.

We diligently try to locate meeting facilities that have free or low-cost parking. However, to eliminate surprises, please call the meeting facility and get first-hand information about parking.

Refunds

Cancellation Policy: A refund will be honored up to 7 days prior to the seminar, less a $20.00 processing fee. If you are unable to attend, we suggest having a colleague attend in your place.
